The report shows that senior personnel in NHS have complained about the destructive effects of the Post-Brexit Immigration policy of the Prime Minister on Hospitals in Britain. Fears have been expressed by executives over the Immigration white paper of the government which spells out rigid plans for workers who are moving to the country on a £30,000 salary threshold. According to documents seen by The Daily Telegraph, officials believe this could be very destructive for the recruitment of NHS staff and will cause 25% of hospital services to be shut down.

What the Plan Entails

Skilled workers will be permitted, under the Post-Brexit Immigration rules, to live in the country if they earn £30,000 or more annually. From the documents obtained from a meeting which was held in January between the officials of Whitehall and NHS, the NHS senior officers have complained that such policy would withdraw hospital staff which is desperately needed. According to one of the NHS officials, a nurse qualification can get the holder employed anywhere globally; as such the UK should try and be competitive in order not to lose out. A suggestion has been made in the government’s white paper to make available five-year permits for workers with higher skills. But the proposed £30,000 minimum wage which is a visa requirement to work in the country after Brexit is being opposed. This proposal has already brought about significant oppositions as the NHS, and other business groups have complained about how the rule will disqualify lots of professionals like Nurses. However, after the government itself has also experienced division due to this rule, there is still further consultation and deliberations concerning the rule. According to Chancellor Philip Hammond and Greg Clerk, a Business Secretary, the rule should be removed from the plans.
