It has been almost four years since the Indian government launched the electronic visa system. India is one of the most visited countries in the world, and the rank has only increased after introducing the e-visa system. Ever since the start, the Indian government earned a total revenue of Rs 14,000 crore through the e-visa program. It was started by the foreigner’s department of Union Home Ministry and issued more than 19 lakh visas in 2017. The Indian government expects the number of visas to cross 25 lakhs in 2018.
It costs different for people companies from different countries and number of days spent in India. The cost varies from USD 0 to USD 75. It is an entirely automatic system and takes electronic visa applications from passport holders of 163 countries across the globe. It allows entry through five seaports and 25 international airports. All the applicant has to do is fill out an online application and submit the required documents. Once they receive the approval of their email id, all they have to do is print and show it to immigration officials when they land in India.
Union Home Ministry recently increased the duration of stay on e-visa from 30 days to 60 days and also increased the window for application period from 30 to 120 days. If foreigners want to stay in India for a period longer than 60 days, they need to go through the traditional way.
Promoting cruise tourism
The Indian government has undertaken another project, which is promoting affordable Indian cruise tourism among foreigners. Those who take on the cruise will be exempt from giving biometric information for their e-visa. The offer is valid only until December 31, 2020. The cruises are going to be huge, which can accommodate around 2,000 to 4,000 people at a time and are going to be luxurious.
