The Canadian government has finally fixed a date for the much-anticipated Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). Portal for the submission of applications will be open to interested sponsors from the 28th of January 2019. The Parents and Grandparent Program is designed for citizens and permanent residents of Canada who are up to the age of 18 and above, and would like to sponsor their grandparent(s)and/or parent(s) to become Permanent Residents of Canada. According to the Immigration, Citizenship and Refugees Canada (IRCC), over 20,000 applicants are expected to be processed through this programme in 2019. There would be an online Interest to Sponsor form set to be available online on the 28th of January at Noon Eastern Standard Time for those who interested in sponsoring their parents and/or grandparents. The IRCC intends to use the approach of "first come, first served" basis to process the applications. In essence, applications would be processed as they are received. Also, the program has a cap of 20,000 applications, and when this number has been reached, invitations to apply would be issued to only those whose applications were among the first 20,000. Earlier on last year, the method for selection of applications was a random lottery method, and it was considered to be controversial. A lot of people criticized the method of selection because there were many people waiting for a chance to sponsor.
