The Federal government in Canada has adopted a five-year education strategy for global education which calls for innovation, greater diversity, and global connections. Additionally it recognizes the presence of global students within Canada, stating that 570,000 foreign holders of study permits contributed $21 billion to the economy since January 2019.
The aim of this $148-million strategy is increasing the variety of source countries for global students. It pledged $30 million in diversifying the recruitment efforts in this domain. 50 percent of international students in Canada hail from China and India, and are concentrated in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. The expanded recruitment strategy will largely focus on The Philippines, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Morocco, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, France, Turkey, and Ukraine.
The strategy will diversify the location of international students studying in Canada, bringing overseas talent to places that receive fewer immigrants in comparison to the urban centers.
Canada has a chain of renowned universities like McGill University, the University of Toronto, the University of Lethbridge, Thompson Rivers University, offering a rich post-secondary experience.
The global students stimulate the spirit of innovation and can develop cross-cultural competency. Additionally the students from abroad opting for Canadian immigration can also make a contribution to the economic success of the country.
Canada also plans for an international strategy by investing $100 million in Canadian citizens studying abroad, and focuses on such groups that were denied opportunities like the low-income people, Indigenous people, and disabled persons.
Ahmed Hussen, Immigration Minister, Canada stated that global students were ideal candidates for permanent residency. The strategy is taking the attributes of Canada further that make it an ideal destination for the growth of international students. There are strong schools and enriching programs in English and French that welcoming a wide range of students. The quality of life is good and there are plenty of opportunities to start a career and seek permanent residency, he added.
