Australia Slashes Yearly Migrant Intake to Decongest Large Cities

Australians are to anticipate the practice of certain policies by the Federal government, which will not only restrict the residential areas of a considerable number of skilled immigrants to every city in Australia to save Melbourne and Sydney but will go ahead to restrain immigrants intake to 160,000. According to a reliable source, these policies have been duly certified by the Cabinet, and the changes will result in a severe drop in the yearly intake of permanent immigrants to the country by about 30,000.

Regional Settlement Policy

This policy specifies that a predefined number of skilled immigrants will be restricted from living in Melbourne and Sydney. Another strategy to be implemented by the Government of Australia in a bid to decongest Melbourne and Sydney is the provision of incentives for international students to study in places outside those two major cities. These changes are only a small part of the changes pronounced by the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison.

Visa Programs Extended

During the previous week, farmers had quite a long term access to an agricultural visa as the closing date for a lot of migration programs were shifted. Meanwhile, sub-members of the agricultural sector, especially those in the National Farmers’ Federation and the Horticulturalists have been trying so hard to secure a farm worker visa which will particularly target the pressing need for labor in the country. According to the Prime Minister, the Australian Government had extended the closing date for as many existing immigration programs as possible, in order to enable them to function the same way a dedicated visa would. In his response, he mentioned that the country already has a farm worker visa which satisfies the demands of the Agricultural sector. He also added that with a growing need for skilled labor, the government would keep expanding the available migration schemes.
