More than 1 lakh tourists entered on e-tourist visas in India last month, registering a massive improvement of 86.4% in the same month in 2015.
The United Kingdom remains the top country among others, to avail e-tourist visas’ provision, trailed by USA and France.
“A total of 1,05,268 foreign tourists arrived in October 2016 on e-tourist visa as compared to 56,477 during the month of October 2015, registering a growth of 86.4 per cent,” according to an official release.
The facility was launched on 27th November 2014 and was made accessible to denizens of 113 nations, arriving at 16 Indian airports until February 25th. It was later extended to nationals of 37 additional nations from 26th February.
Amidst the top ten countries of source utilizing this provision in October, UK’s share was the highest at 22.9% followed by USA at 12.1%, France at 6.6%, China at 5.8% and Russia with 5.6%.
Germany’s share was around 5.5%, while Australia was at 4.5%, Canada with 3.6%, followed by Spain at 2.3% and the Netherlands with 2.1%.
The release also said that, “This high growth may be attributed to introduction of e-tourist visa for 150 countries as against the earlier coverage of 113 countries,”
Throughout January to October this year, an aggregate of 7,80,570 tourists arrived using e-tourist visas in contrast with 2,58,182 around the same time last year, documenting an increase of 202.3%.
Of the top TEN airports in which tourists are availing this online provision, New Delhi’s Airport saw the highest volume of 51.67%, ensued by Mumbai’s Airport with 18.65% Goa’s Dabolim Airport at 6.20%, Airport at Bengaluru with 5.18% & Chennai Airport saw 4.97%.
Kochi Airport’s share was 3.15%, while the airport at Amritsar saw 2.42%, Hyderabad’s Airport at 2.18%, Kolkata Airport at 2.08% and Trivandrum Airport with 1.28%.
